Woog’ed Out

While stoners were out indulging 7/10 at Chalice Festival, house music worshippers enjoyed the vibes of the 2nd installment of The Do Lab presents Woogie Weekend.   The picturesque landscape housed two shaded stages of non-stop house music along with a pond, a slip-n-slide, festy merchants, and hammock and hang-out nooks galore.   Under the sweet sunshine of a July afternoon, SUPERGOODMUSIC got their rookie run through the mini-rage that takes place at Oak Canyon Park in Silverado, CA.

With the parking lot a few hundred feet away from the entrance, a parking lot mini tailgate preceded trickling in a couple hours after kick-off to beats that were thumping while the slip-n-slide was already populated with animal rafts, scantily clad 20 somethings and just enough dirty water to keep it festive.  Dancing around Kaleidoscope, the stage recycled from this year’s Woogie stage at LIB, the multi-colored pipes surrounded structure complimented the vibrant crowd energy.   A refreshing breeze beat some of the heat back while New Belgium fueled suds flowed from the shaded Favela Bar, where close by some were entertaining complimentary tastings of specialty partner blends.   At 5 pm – as if you were amidst color war season sleep-away camp, a water balloon fight broke out between the stages.

The scenery, cervezas and watersports were solid – but the real draw was the music.   Kidnap Kid, Desert Hearts’ Lee Reynolds and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs served up the sexiest sets of Sunday, although everyone brought an above average game to the park.  Rodriguez Jr. and Benoit & Sergio dropped some live entertainment to boot and the days soundtrack more than satisfied the soul.  Coming at the tail end of the weekend — I still craved more house even as the sound system blasted it’s final beats.    On the drive out of the scenic grounds, I dreamed of future Woogie’s under the starlit sky.

We will certainly to be back next year and prepared for 3 days of wet and wild Woogie Weekend antics.  Roughly a one hour jaunt from LA – the festival delivered an intimate experience for several thousand attendees with a lot of potential for drawing many more once the word gets out!
