Sophisti-Funk at The Mint

Over the next few weeks – some exceptional musicians and sophisticated super-ensembles parade through LA’s funk haven, The Mint. For fans of rhythm, amazing B3 and clavinet, or some gritty funk — make sure you’ve got some flexibility in your schedule.

On December’s first Wednesday, Galactic’s rhythm section (Stanton Moore – drums; Robert Mercurio – bass) combine forces with Ivan Neville on keys and Eric Lindell on guitar to breathe fire and melt faces as Dragon Smoke. Born out of a NOLA Jazzfest super jam – its a rare treat to see these instrumental forces playing as this quartet. Enter for a chance to win tickets by emailing contest@supergoodmusic or tweeting out @supergoodmusic @mintLA #dragonsmoke.

A week later – another funk superpower – Greyboy Allstars invades The Mint’s halls for two consecutive nights. On December 11th and 12th – the quintet featuring Karl Denson on sax, Elgin Park on guitar and Robert Walters on hammond b3 organ will pump your soul with tight grooves and clean rhythmic breaks. ¬† Aaron Redfield holds down the kit now in place of original member Zak Najor – and Chris Stillwell keeps the lows strong on bass. ¬†These skilled musicians are only playing a few shows to close out the year – and L.A. gets the privilege of witnessing two boogaloo soul jazz extravaganzas from this epic supergroup. Get tickets here.
