Local Buzz Artists Take Over El Rey Theatre Saturday

A smattering of Los Angeles buzz acts hit the stage of the historic El Rey Theatre on Saturday night June 21, 2014 when Kitten, LIZ and Tapioca and The Flea are scheduled to play.

KITTEN, fronted by Chloe Chaidez, have enjoyed plenty of time on the buzz radar since the release of their second EP, Cut It Out, in 2011.   A parade of bandmate departures and returns, including the exodus of three members who formed FIDLAR, may have kept this KITTEN from going viral like a cat meme — but with an alleged full length album due out June 24th, all of that could change.  You can listen to a preview or pre-purchase the album here.

Supporting KITTEN are Mad Decent’s LIZ and local indie act Tapioca and The Flea.   While the latter have lost some of their steam from 2013, LIZ continues to heat up.  The valley native (Tarzana, CA) brought her updated glossy take on R&B to Echoplex just over three weeks ago and the crowd mobbed out in fantastic fashion before Hoodboi and LE1F closed things out.  She’s no Aaliyah – but she’s entertaining and her production is full of Team Supreme (Mr. Carmack, Colta, Djemba Djemba) originals and other Mad Decent bangers.  Expect LIZ to shine on stage again on Saturday at El Rey.
