Electric Zoo Final Day Cancelled

NYC electronic music festival Electric Zoo elected to pull the plug on this year’s festival after the tragic death of two attendees.

23 year old Jeffrey Russ of Rochester was rushed to Harlem Hospital late Saturday night and could not be saved.

Olivia Rotondo, 20, was admitted to Metropolitan Hospital around 8:45 pm and died approximately 50 minutes after arrival.  She was a University of New Hampshire student – and posted a picture of herself in giraffe slippers claiming “Am I ready for @ElectricZooNY or what?” to twitter the day before the festival.

In both deaths, MDMA (ecstasy or molly) is considered the chief suspect.  Four other attendees are reportedly being treated for alleged overdoses in intensive care units at local hospitals.

Tickets to today’s show cost $179.  The festival, going into its 5th year, reported more than 100,000 attendees last year.  Festival leaders posted the following message on their site:

“The founders of Electric Zoo send our deepest condolences to the families of the two people who passed away this weekend.  Because there is nothing more important to us than our patrons, we have decided in consultation with the New York City Parks Department that there will be no show today.”

The question still remains – will they be issuing a refund?
