Highlighted by the celebrated reunions of LCD Soundsystem and Guns N Roses, Coachella’s line-up announcement was received with the typical spectrum of celebration to ire.   At SGM headquarters, where James Murphy has deity status, the announcement of LCD headlining Friday night coupled with the suggestion of “Despacio All Weekend Long” could only have been upstaged by a reunion of Talking Heads.

Some speculators (and some hip-hop fans) may be upset there is no NWA reunion as was rumored, but Ice Cube’s Saturday night billing provides potential for that to become a reality.    If GNR flops weekend 1 — that may give Coachella motivation to up the ante for Weekend 2 like what happened with Kanye West’s appearance with The Weeknd in 2015.

Despite there being A$AP Rocky, G-Eazy, Rae Sremmurd, Vince Staples, Run The Jewels, SZA, Joey Badass and DJ Mustard, hip-hop fans may not feel the love on headliners after enjoying a stretch of recent years that included mainstage appearances from Drake, Kanye West, Outkast, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and the ghost of Tupac.  Electronic music fans however likely lost themselves.   The EDM takeover is real on top of the electronic flavored rock of LCD Soundsystem and Miike Snow.  Sunday hosts not only Calvin Harris as the headliner, but also Major Lazer and Flume.  It will be truly be a day for Prayers and further beat worship with Thomas Jack, Hudson Mohawke, TOKiMONSTA, The Chainsmokers, Nosaj Thing, AC Slater and more which caps off a weekend that includes Disclosure, Zedd, Zhu, Jack U and more!

There is so much to like and when schedules are announced some extremely tough decisions to make, but a couple other acts from each day include Friday sets from St. Germain, M83, Gallant, Foals and Louis The Child, Saturday sets from RL Grime, Gary Clark Jr., SOPHIE, Mr. Carmack and AlunaGeorge, Sunday brings personal favorites Miike Snow, Kamasi Washington’s brass, plus firecrackers Matt & Kim, queen of beats TOKiMONSTA and her friend Anderson.Paak.

Thanks Goldenvoice and Coachella for putting together yet another amazing line-up.
